Summary : A stonehouse or bastle is depicted as a tower called `ye Rydings' on the 1590 map of Cumbria, and as a dwelling called `Ridding howme' on the plot of 1607. The owner of the Ridings notes that there is a pile of overgrown rubble northo f the farm on the site of an old railway siding, but within the wood, which may be the site of the stonehouse.
