The adjacent lodge and barn are parts of the former manor house, built late 16th early 17th century (at SO 86959846) It has been restored beyond recognition. (2-3) Wightwick Manor is as described in the pamphlet. Wightwick Manor Farm House and barn are 16th century brick buildings which have been restored. Now of little interest and in no way outstanding. (5) 1. 5110 WIGHTWICK BANK Wightwick Wightwick Manor (Formerly listed under "General" heading) SO 89 NE 10/181 29.7.50, II* GV 2. 1887 and 1893. Architect: Edward Ould. Built for Samuel Theodore Mander. An excellent period piece and reproduction of an early Tudor Manor house, timber frame and plaster much enriched. The interior, whilst wholly in keeping, is picturesque, varied and with many original features owing much to the influence of William Morris and containing glass and decorative work by Kempe and tiles by William de Morgan. Much of the decoration and furnitute shows Pre-Raphaelite influence, and the house contains original wallpapers and tapestries by William Morris. A National Trust Property. (6)
Description of the manor (7).
House designed by Edward Ould and constructed in 1887-88. It is situated to the southwest of the original manor house which was constructed during the late 16th/early 17th century house. The house was extended in 1893. It is an Old English Style two storey building constructed of brick with a timber frame and ashlar dressings. The roof is of tile. The house originally had an L-shaped plan but extended to form a T-plan. (8) |
