Hob Uid: 11706
Location :
Cumbria
Carlisle
Nicholforest
Grid Ref : NY4770082100
Summary : Earthwork of a stonehouse or bastle at Kershope which was documented in a map of 1590 and also in 1607.
More information : A map in the Britsh Museum, dated December 1590,marks "Kirsopfoote" with a tower symbol at Kershopefoot (1)

There is no local tradition of a tower at Kershopefoot village and
general perambulation in the area revealed no evidence of such a structure.
Dr Robson, (b) has no information on this name, and doubts the existence of a strong house in this locality. (2)

Depicted as `Kisopfote' on the 1607 plot of Cumbria. A square ditch, believed to be a moat has been recoded from aerial photos and identified on the ground. (3)
