Summary : An inscribed Roman altar was found in 1828, which had been reused as a well cover. An inscribed Roman tombstone was found nearby in 1828 or 1829. Both stones are in Brougham Castle.
More information : (Area NY 545 289) An inscribed Roman altar found in 1828, re-used as a well cover, in a field on the south-west side of the road near the Countess Pillar, about 1/2 mile south-east of Brougham.
An inscribed Roman tombstone was also found near the Countess Pillar
in 1828 or 1829.
Both stones are in Brougham Castle. (1)
