Summary : Mound in Richmond Park situated on the edge of a west-facing scarp which leads down to the River Thames. It measures 27.5 metres by 14 metres, with a height of up to 1 metre high. The mound is an elongated oval aligned north-south along the scarp edge. The eastern side is the best defined, but the western side is almost indistinguishable from the natural slope. The feature hasbeen interpreted as a long barrow but it may have a parkland interpretation, possibly a pillow mound. The mound was surveyed by RCHME field staff in January 1995.
More information : TQ 1898 7184 Mound (NR)

A low mound located on the edge of a west-facing scarp which leads down to the River Thames. 27.5m x 14.0m and no more than 1.0m high, the mound is an elongated oval aligned north-south along the scarp edge. The eastern side is the best defined (partly as the result of a sunken path running alongside it), but the western side is almost indistinguishable from the natural slope. It has been suggested that this mound is a long barrow (1a), but the supporting evidence is sketchy at best, and this interpretation should be regarded with caution. The feature may have a parkland interpretation (pillow mound?). The mound was surveyed by the RCHME in January 1995 during the Royal Parks Project. See archive report and survey plan at 1:500 scale.
