A small 12th c motte, SW of Irthington Mill. (2)

Condition unchanged. There is no trace of a bailey. Published survey (25") revised. (4)
Identified as a natural feature. There would not be two mottes so close together in the same manor. (5)
The mound referred to above (1-5) is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs. It comprises an oval mound which measures a maximum of 48m long by 29m wide and is orientated roughly east / west. No associated features such as a bailey are visible on the available aerial photographs. (6) |
