Summary : Originally built in 1547 on the site of, and utilising the ruins of Woburn Abbey (SP93SE3). Largely rebuilt in 1630 by the 4th Duke of Bedford, but again severely altered in 1747-61 by Henry Flitcroft, and in 1787-90 by Henry Holland. Formerly a quadrangular plan, but the East wing, and the East ends of the North and South wings were demolished in 1949-50. 2-storeyed with attics. |
