Summary : Warehouse built in 1868 by Edward Birchall for cloth manufacturer Walter Stead. The warehouse was gutted by fire in 1977 and rebuilt in the early 1980's, it is now offices. It is build in the gothic revival style from ashlar and brick with stone dressings, there is a slate roof with modern dormers. The building has seven bays and four storeys and a basement. To the ground floor there are six moulded depressed arch windows with pilaster shafts and carved capitals. In the sixth bay there is an entrance bay with a porch with granite columns and carved capitals supporting a stone roof. To the first and second floors are windows in pointed arch arcade with brick pilasters and moulded capitals. To the third floor there are narrow windows in an arcade of 21 arches. There is a stone modillion cornice with cast iron cresting and octagonal brick finals. |
