A motte and bailey, occupying a long oval hillock of about 1-3/4 acres. The motte, at the N end, has probably been partly carried away by the river and is now of irregular form, rising only about 9' above the bailey. Traces of a rampart on the S side and a ditch between it and the bailey, the E and S sides of which have been much damaged. (2)
As described by the R C H M and generally in poor condition. The site is still referred to locally as "Castle Howe". Published survey (25") revised. (3)
