Summary : The Exeter and Exmouth Railway was originally proposed in 1855 as a broad gauge railway, leaving the South Devon railway at Exminster, but the LSWR wooed the company and convinced it to build a narrow gauge line, sharing the LSWR's Queen Street Station. Opened in 1861, it was worked by the LSWR which absorbed the Exeter and Exmouth Company in 1866. A short spur to Topsham Quay closed in 1958.
