Summary : The Trent, Ancholme and Grimsby Railway grew out of an idea to create a rail link between the Rivers Ancholme and Trent, which was spurred on by the discovery of iron ore deposits at Frodingham. The South Yorkshire Railway had a line at that time approaching Keadby on the Trent, so the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincs Railway readily agreed to extend its network from Barnetby on the Grimsby - Gainsborough line to Keadby, opening the line in 1860. It was later known as the Barnsley and Barnetby Railway.
