Summary : A section of the 19th and 20th century Ross and Monmouth Railway route is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs. The route extends for almost 4km between two tunnels. This section of the route also incorporates Lydbrook Junction Station (SO 51 NE 96), where it met the Severn and Wye railway. North of the Junction the railway crossed the river Wye over the Stowfield viaduct, which originally had an underbridge for a double track, but this was not used and has been removed. |
More information : A section of the 19th and 20th century Ross and Monmouth Railway route is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs. The route extends for almost 4km between two tunnels, at SO 5654 1593 and SO 5875 1782.
This section of the route also incorporates Lydbrook Junction Station (SO 51 NE 96), where it met the Severn and Wye railway. North of the Junction the railway crossed the river Wye over the Stowfield viaduct, at SO 5872 1770, which originally had an underbridge for a double track, but this was not used and has been removed.
