Summary : King's Dock was first constructed in 1785 and mainly dealt with tobacco imports. It was rebuilt from 1898 under the Dock Improvement Act, and by 1906 had two branches of water. It now dealt with fresh fruit imported from the Canary Islands, which was stored in quayside sheds. The dock was closed in 1972 and the branches infilled in 1986.
