Summary : An area of Roman settlement, part of Easton Grey Roman town, is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs. The site comprises a series of crofts defined by boundary ditches or trackways, two possible rectilinear enclosures or crofts, and circa ten pits. Most of these features are to the west of Foss Way, with the crofts arranged at right angles to it. Eight of the pits are to the east of Foss Way. A series of probable trackways and field boundaries on alignments which suggest that they are not directly related to the settlement are located immediately to the west. They are recorded as 1001413. This site has been mapped from aerial photographs as part of the Cotswold Hills National Mapping Programme. |
More information : An area of Roman settlement, part of Easton Grey Roman town, is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs. The site is centred on ST 8878 8687 and extends over an area which measures 350 metres east-west and 240 metres north-south. The site comprises a series of crofts defined by boundary ditches or trackways, two possible rectilinear enclosures or crofts, and circa ten pits. Most of these features are to the west of Foss Way, with the crofts arranged at right angles to it. Eight of the pits are to the east of Foss Way. A series of probable trackways and field boundaries on alignments which suggest that they are not directly related to the settlement are located immediately to the west. They are recorded as 1001413.
