Summary : Site of a Second World War heavy anti aircraft battery at Spondon. It was armed with four 3.7-inch static guns with GL Mark II radar in 1942. It had been manned by 200 Battery of the 68th Royal Artillery Regiment in 1940, and by 497 Battery of the 144th Mobile Royal Artillery Regiment in May 1942, although the Home Guard took over in October 1942. It was retained as a Nucleus Force Headquarters Battery in 1946. |
