Summary : Four six-storey tower blocks built as public housing using the Bison industrialised building system. Each block consisted of 66 three-bedroom, five-person flats and 5 two-bedroom, four-person flats, making 284 dwellings in total. Miall Rhys Davies and Partners acted as consulting architects. Construction was approved by committee in 1967. All of the blocks are now demolished. |
More information : The blocks were commissioned by Newcastle-upon-Tyne County Borough Council. The date of the demoltion of the blocks is unknown. One of the blocks is known to have been extant in 1994.(1)
The Former address of Walker House was the name of one of the individual blocks. The consulting architects were employed as a result of their experience using the Bison industrialised building system. Stanley Miller Ltd.'s tender for the contract was £1,137,288. The blocks are thought to have been linked with either balcony access or deck access. (2) |
