Summary : Wesleyan Methodist chapel, 1864-6, by Bates of Manchester, now supermarket. Freestone, hipped slate roof with 2 chimneys in rear wall. Rectangular plan, 3 x 6 bays. Two storeys, in classical style, with 1st floor band. West facade and 1st bay of return walls have giant Corinthian pilasters bearing a deep entablature with dentilled and modillioned cornice; centre of facade has applied portico with pediment carried by giant Corinthian attached columns distyle in antis enclosing a 1st floor Venetian window. |
