Summary : The site of Turret 42b on Hadrian's Wall. It was located in 1912 by Simpson and survived as an uneven platform up to 0.6 metres high with evidence of digging and stone robbing.
More information : [NY 7083 6682] Turret [G.S.] (Site of) (1) Turret 42B lies opposite the larger temporary camp beyond the Wall [NY 76 NW 19] close to the angle where the Wall bends westward towards Greatchesters. (2) Located by exploratory excavation in 1912. (3) There are no structural remains of this turret, but its site is discernible as a mutilated, turf-covered platform 0.5 m. high. Surveyed at 1:2500. (4) The turret which was located in 1912 by Simpson (5a) survives as an uneven platform up to 0.6m high with evidence of digging and stone robbing at NY 7084 6682. (5) Scheduled (6) Reference (7) The earthwork remains were recorded from aerial photographs at 1:10000 scale as part of Hadrian's Wall World Heritage Site Mapping Project. (8) Located on the English Heritage map of Hadrian's Wall 2010. (9)
