| Summary : Three Roman cylindrical milestones were found in 1882, lying on the south side of the Military Way about 205 yds. east-south-east of milecastle 42. Two, with 3rd century inscriptions, are in Chesters Museum. The third, uninscribed, still lies on the spot. It measures 1.38 x 0.4 x 0.30m and is rectangular and crudely rounded. It lies in long grass. |

Three cylindrical milestones, found in 1882, lying on the south side of the Military Way about 205 yds. east-south-east of milecastle 42. Two, with 3rd.C inscriptions, (Roman Inscriptions in Britain Nos. 2306 and 2307) (2) are in Chesters Museum. The third, uninscribed, still lies on the spot (3). (2-3)
The stone is recumbent at NY 71776662. (4)
The remaining milestone is in a recumbent position. It measures 1.38 x 0.4 x 0.30m and is rectangular and crudely rounded. It lies in long grass. The two others were removed to Chesters Museum. (5)
