RAF aerial photograps taken in 1945 show the entire bridge and approaches encircled by a barbed wire obstruction on both sides of the river. A small structure thought to be a possible pillbox (Monument Number:1569089) was seen to the south of the bridge on the eastern bank of the river. The HER record for the bridge records the presence of a wartime roadblock on the bridge.
