Monument Number 205315

Hob Uid: 205315
Location :
Gloucestershire

Grid Ref : ST7712093110
Summary : A possible Bronze Age round barrow located west of 'The Clump' long barrow (Monument Number 205312) on Blackquarries Hill. The barrow was located on an ordnance survey trig point marked on the Ordnance Survey Map (1882). The barrow was subsequently plough levelled and nothing could be identified on the ground in 1969.
More information : Round Barrow near 'The Clump' long barrow, about 20ft
diameter and 4ft high. (ST 77129311). (1)

Round Barrow? Found 2 2 26. (2)

Used by OS as Trig Point and a mark buried in centre of barrow. (3)

A round barrow which in 1953 measured 9 paces in diameter by
3 1/2ft high. It has since been ploughed over, and by 1959 was
difficult to find. (4)

The area indicated by Mrs Crook is a western slope with numerous
stone pits and spoil mounds. Nothing can be identified as a barrow.

Grinsell's reference to ploughing applies to the field 50.0m to
the E where level ground presents a more likely situation for a
barrow, though again nothing is traceable on the ground.

The Trig Point mentioned by Lindsy cannot be identified. (5)

The possible round barrow referred to above (1-5) was not visible on the available aerial photographs viewed as part of The Cotswold Hills NMP survey. The ordnance survey trig point referred to by Lindsy (3) is marked on the Ordnance Survey Map (1882). (6)
