Summary : Excavations in 1906 uncovered the remains of a Roman courtyard villa with Mosaics and Hypocausts and a nearby bloomery.
More information : (SU 63212451) Roman Villa (G.S.)
(remains of) (T.I.) (1)

A small courtyard villa, 140ft. by 60ft., excavated by A. Moray-Williams in 1906. Out of 16 rooms, three had mosaic floors, three others were paved with tesserae and three were fitted with hypocausts. A peculiarity of the plan is the complete absence of corridors. A deposit of black earth containing pottery and iron slag lay 100 yards to the south. (2)

(Plan) (3)

The finds are in Winchester Museum. (4)

The site is now completely overgrown and all that remains is a series of silted up hollows separated by unintelligible fragments of flint walling.
Published 1:2500 revised.
The deposit of black earth with pottery and iron slag could not be identified. It is presumably overgrown or ploughed out. (5)

HA 99 Listed as the site of a Roman villa. (6)
