Wooburn House

Hob Uid: 251588
Location :
Buckinghamshire
Wooburn
Grid Ref : SU9135088200
Summary : An 18th century house on the site of a moated manor house or bishops palace.
More information : An extensive moated palace or manor house and chapel with
gardens commanding "a pleasant view of the church and village"
of Wooburn. The house was pulled down in 1750 and the stables
converted to a dwelling (1).

Wooburn House (SU 91358820) 18th C on site of earlier house
(Bishops Palace) (2).

No trace of the 'palace' or chapel survives and the main body of
18th C Wooburn House has been demolished in recent years and the
area developed.

The 'moat', probably refers to the ornamented stretch of the River
Wye which runs SE and SW of this area. (3)
