Wilton Castle became so called in 1406 after Ralph de Bulmer obtained licence to crenellate his manor-house in 1330. In 1569 it was mentioned as a stronghold. Some of its remains were visible at the beginning of the 19th century, but by 1846 these had disappeared. The present house was built on the old site about 1807 in the Gothic style. (2) NZ 5819 1967.
