Summary : Cistercian nunnery founded circa 1162 moved to Nunthorpe (NZ 51 SW 3) circa 1167. There appears to be some reused Medieval masonry at Home Farmhouse.
More information : A Cistercian Nunnery was founded at Hutton Lowcross, about 1162, by Ralph de Nevill who moved it to Nunthorpe about 1167.

The original position of this Cistercian Nunnery was not discovered during field investigations. (2)

(NZ 596144) Home Farm. In its walls can still be seen pieces of worked stone, the remains either of the Lowcross lazar house (NZ 51 SE 23) or of a Cistercian nunnery founded in Hutton before 1167, but very soon removed to Nunthorpe. (3)
