Summary : WWII air raid shelter within Shoreham airfield mapped from historical aerial photographs.
More information : The earthwork remains of a large WWII air raid shelter within the NE perimeter of Shoreham Airfield located at TQ 2045 0591. Measuring c.10m x 32m, this shelter comprised an elongated mound with an entrance in the side and the escape hatch in the western end. At the eastern end of the mound the structural remains of a probable type 24 pillbox could also be seen (TQ20NW 130). These features were mapped from historical aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: South Downs NMP project. (1)
