More information : The (episcopal) Fishponds (at Marwell Manor), except Fisher's Pond (SU 42 SE 54), were all drained in about 1830. (Ponds centred at SU 490207, SU 502208. SU 508207 and SU 512207) (1) A pond is first noted here in 1217-18, and at least four ponds existed in the 13th c, two of which, covering 8 acres, were allowed to revert to meadow in 1247-8. The small and great vivarium are frequently referred to after this date. The total area of the four ponds may have exceeded 70 acres, but they had all been breached by 1759. (2) A massive fishpond dam to the west of Marwell Manor may also have served as part of the park pale (see SU 52 SW 33) (3) SU 491205 - SU 491207, earthwork. (Dam) at Marwell Manor.
