Little Park, entirely surrounded by earthworks, two entrances
(presumably St Mary's Gate (or Gate of Bogherwerth) and gateway
in N side). These earthworks were increased prior to the civil
war siege.
About the centre of the enclosed are are some foundations of a
large building. Other foundations may here and there be traced
in Little Park, which supports the belief that, prior to 1295,
a part of the town may have occupied this site. (2-3)
The central area of Little Park is occupied by a cricket ground
which was laid out some years ago. The older groundsmen knew of
no foundations having been exposed. The surrounding earthworks
pre-date the park (See TQ 00 NW 1 ). (4)
