Opening onto the slope was the splayed mouth of a flue, 4.5 metres long, leading upwards into an oval kiln-chamber, 3 metres across and up to eight courses high, cut into the rock. It was not closely dateable; Roman pottery of the late 3rd-early 4th centuries was found overlying and within it. There are no visible remains. |
