More information : A Prehistoric or Roman ditch defined forked linear feature was visible on air photographs and has been mapped at 1:2500 scale. The significance or purpose of this feature is difficult to discern. It is centred at SK 9681 8675 and either overlies or underlies an enclosure recorded in SK 98 NE 41. The linear feature is 100m long in its longest sinuous stretch and could be part of a substantial ditched enclosure, a trackway or possibly some form of water management system. A small square cut feature is bisected by the southern end of the fork; it is not clear whether the relationship is deliberate or fortuitous. This feature may be associated with the extensive Iron Age or Roman settlement just to the east (SK 98 NE 7). (1) |
