This may be the last Sapperton in Welbourn. (1-2) No further information. (3)
An examination of all the available air photographs revealed no trace of Medieval settlement in Welbourn parish other than the Medieval settlement remains around the present village of Welbourne (see SK 95 SE 20). (4)
Sapperton is mentioned in the enclosure award. The Little Manor House of Sapperton belonged to the Welby family, and it is said to have stood by the side of Lincoln to Grantham road. The earthworks, which lie to the south end of the village, may be evidence of the contraction of Welbourn. It has also been suggested these earthworks may relate to Sapperton (5) |
