Summary : A Roman milestone was found in 1879 at the SW corner of the junction of the main north and west streets of the first Colonia. It was dedicated to Victorinus and dated c AD 268-70. The milestone is in Lincoln Museum.
More information : [SK 9762 7194] Roman milestone "found in 1879, at the S.W. corner of the junction of the main north & west streets of the first colonia. It is a flattened cylinder of stone over 7' high and bears in a rough pecked lettering, clumsily placed on the stone, an inscription of Victorinus, of AD 268-70, and a figure of XIIII miles AL (indo) S (egeloeum). Inscr. reads IMP CAES MARCO PIN ONO VICTORI NOPFINV AVGPONI MAX TR P.PP A.L.S.M. P.x.I111 (1-2) The Milestone is now in Lincoln Museum. Museum photo AO/63/16/4. (3)
