More information : [SK 98897134] Monk's Abbey [GT] (Remains of). (1) The Priory of St. Mary Magdalene at Lincoln was founded, probably temp. Henry II [1154-1189] although there is no charter extant to prove this, as a cell of St. Mary's (Benedictine) Abbey, York. It was dissolved in 1539. The remains of the church and one wall of the domestic buildings of the small cell known as Monk's Abbey still stand. (4) Monk's Abbey scheduled 5. (2-5) The remains of the priory (known as "Monk's Abbey") are as described above. They are situated in a recreation ground, enclosed within iron railings, and are well preserved having been recently restored.

Parts of an east-west aligned priory church were seen as stone foundations on good quality air photographs. The east end, (8m wide) was recorded at SK 98407134. The foundations of a wall which forms another part of the church were recorded at SK 98877134. (Morph No. LI.626.3.1 - 3.2)
