Summary : Bridge built in the 12th or 13th century on Norman foundations, the earliest part thought to date from 1160. Said to have once had five arches there is now only one. Half timbered buildings on the bridge, originally warehouses, are 16th century.

High Bridge, Lincoln, was built in the 13th century on Norman
foundations, the earliest part thought to date from 1160. Said
to have had at one time five arches today there is one only,
a massive five-ribbed structure. The half-timbered buildings
on the bridge, originally used as warehouses, are 16th century.

A plaque reads; "High Bridge - early crossing of R. Witham.
Central vaulted portion built in 12th c. A Chapel of St. Thomas
of Canterbury [SK 97 SE 55] stood on the eastern side until
c 1763.
The houses on the west side belong to the 16th c".
