More information : (Name: SP 177692) Bushwood hall (TI) MOAT (GT). (1) Bushwood is said to date from 1708 but, if so, it must have been considerably altered in the 19th Century. There are remains of a moat south of the house. (2) The contract for the building of a hall at Lapworth dated 1314, still exists, and Dugdale supposes this to be what is now known as Bushwood Hall. (3) The moat which surrounds the Hall is water-filled, and that part of the eastern arm which had been filled in has been re-excavated and bridged. Published survey (25") revised. A little half timbering shows at the rear of the Hall but in the main the exterior is 18/19th Century. (4) No change since report of 18 1 68. Published survey (1:2500 1970) correct. (5) Bushwood Hall, Grade II Circa C17, front section rebuilt 1708, altered early C19. Situated on an earlier moated site. (6) Additional bibliography. (7) Note with illustrations of excavation of timber bridge. (8) Reference to a deed dated 1313 (8a) Note on excavation within moated area. (9)
A deed of 1313 refers to a gatehouse on the site. Possibly a fortified house. (11)
