More information : (SP 30458510) Camp. (LB). (1) Corley Camp, Burrow Hill. A hill-fort excavated 1923 & 1926 and proved I.A. 'B' - occupation was slight. The main interest of the work is structural, the rampart was of earth faced with coursed masonry reinforced with lenghtwise and crosswise timbering. The remains of this construction were found in a very ruined state but they constitute the only approach yet recorded in England to the 'murus Gallicus' of continental Celtic forts. The extent of the camp was somewhat uncertain, modern quarrying having infiltrated. (2-3) Modern farming equipment and technique is quickly removing the greater part of this hill-fort although the remains, at the moment, are impressive. When visited the site was under plough - no surface finds were made. Published survey (25" 1954) revised. (4) Scheduled as 'Corley Camp'. (5)
