Summary : A late 17th century miller's house with attached outbuildings and grist mill. The small two-storey mill has now been converted into a dwelling.
More information : (SS 66804483) Parracombe Mill, is a small two-storey
grist mill, though to be 16th century. An overshot wheel, 15
feet in diameter with a cast iron rim and wooden buckets, is now
used for generating electricity. The mill itself has been
converted into a house and none of the machinery remains (1).

Paracombe Mill, at SS 66804483, is fully described in the Devon SMR records (SMR No: SS 64 SE41). It is a late 17th century miller's house with attached outbuildings and mill (2). An overshot cast iron wheel 14 feet (4.24m) in diameter. The mill was last used for grinding in 1942; in 1967 the wheel was reconditioned and by 1974 it was being used to generate electricity for a private supply (3). The wheel was still in working order in 1987 (2).

The mill is supplied by a lesat from the south-east which still carries water. It flows from SS 66964475 some 180m to the south-east of the mill, and comprises a well defined earthwork, the channel being dammed up against the slope by some 0.8m (4). (2-4)
