Monument Number 35209

Hob Uid: 35209
Location :
Somerset
Somerset West and Taunton
Exmoor
Grid Ref : SS7636042890
Summary : Two standing stones measuring 0.7m long and 0.15m wide. They are not thought to be of prehistoric date but may be the result of outcropping resulting from surface erosion.
More information : [SS 7636 4289] Stones [TI] (1)

Two stones, probably set stones, on Hoar Tor. Lat 51 deg 10' 16" Long 3 deg 46' 20". They are lying near each other and not much above ground. No trace of the stones could be found, either at the published site or that derived from Chanter and Worth. (2)

This is an area of extensive peat digging. There is no trace of these stones. (3)

Mr RA Setterington reported in May 1991 that he had found the two stones, not at the position recorded by authority 1 but "to the north west and nearer the hedge". (4)

No details about these stones are given by authorities 2 or 4.

Two stones some 0.7m long and 0.15 m wide are partly exposed at about SS 75754300, not far from the hedge and near the bottom of the valley. They are over 500m from the OS siting and though only 5m apart can hardly have been so grossly mis-positioned. Both are clearly outcrop stones resulting from surface erosion. (5)
