Grid Ref : TF2700066030
Summary : Mid to late 16th century gatehouse to the demolished Scrivelsby Hall which was demolished in 1955. The gatehouse comprises two storeys and is linear in plan, and consists a central range over the gateway with ranges adjoining to the north and south.
More information : [TF 27016604] Scrivelsby Court [G.T.]. (1)

Demolished except for outbuildings at TF 26996603 and TF26996606 (5).Scrivelsby Court, home of the Dymokes, Champions of England since the Conquest, had retained 15th century features after being burnt out in 1761. (2-5)

The old gatehouse and office block, at TF 26996603, has survived the demolition of 1957, and is now the principal residence of Scrivelsby Court. The west front is predominately 15th and 16th century; see G.Ps. AO/64/189/6 and 7 (15th century window); the rest is Georgian and later. None of the outbuildings are of architectural interest, but there are remains of an ornamental moat - published 25" survey correct. (6)

Scrivelsby Court is a red brick, two storeyed building built in the
16th century and restored in 1959, Grade I. The Lion Gateway at Scrivelsby Court (TF 26786606 deduced from OS 1:10000 1971) was built in c1530 of ashlar, it is now much worn. Rebuilt in the early 19th century, Grade II*. (7-8)

Medieval tiles from the site are in Lincoln Museum (741-4.09). (9)

The ornamental moat (TF 2698 6597) described by authority 6 was mapped from poor quality air photographs. An ornamental pond lies further to the east at TF 2709 6600. Associated with Scrivelsby Court is a large park/deer park presumably of similar date to the house. (Morph Nos LI.189.6.1-2)

This description is based on data from the RCHME MORPH2 database. (10-10a)
