Summary : Site of a mound interpretted as a possible navigation marker, windmill mound or motte.
More information : (TF 49911696) Mound (NAT). (1) Doubtful as a Tumulus; may be a medieval navigation mark. (2) The mound has been levelled and its site ploughed. There are no surface remains. Detail shown on the OS 25" 1927 suggests a pond adjacent to the mound, probably its quarry. This would almost certainly refute any claim to its being a barrow. It could have been a navigation mark, as mentioned by Auth 2, or a mound to carry a windmill or windpump. (3) "TF 501165. The mound indicated on the OS Map has been levelled for the construction of a bungalow. An adjoining field is called "Castle Meadow" and suggests that the mound was a motte." (4)
