Centred TF 412699 (3) Dalby is mentioned in Domesday and later taxations. Air photographs show traces of what appear to be earthworks of a lost village. (2-3)
The earthworks constitute shrinkage. The feature which has been published as a moat is a disused quarry. (4)

The evidence of former settlement of Medieval or Post Medieval date, recorded by Authorities 2-5, were seen as earthworks and mapped from good quality air photographs. The following features were identified:-
A system of ditch-defined, parallel crofts, between 25 to 50m wide, extend E-W from TF 4088 7002 and TF 4128 6989 as far south as TF 4108 6973. The crofts contain three possible rectangular buildings, measuring 7-10m by 5m at TF 4095 7002, TF 4115 6993 and TF 4111 6989. Three stretches of trackway, with a maximum length of 200m at TF 4093 6992 and TF 4130 7006, lie towards the western and eastern ends of the village. Two large ponds at TF 4110 6993 and an area of broad ridge and furrow, maximum length 130m at TF 4097 6980. (Morph No. LI.114.4.1-8)
A Post medieval quarry within the village is recorded in TF 46 NW 93.
