Summary : Water Mill and Tower Mill attached to The Mill House at the east. The watermill straddles the River Burn,it is dated 1737 by a key stone on the west gable. It is constructed from red brick with a pantiled roof, it has two storeys and a later third storey added perhaps 1814. To the north there is circa 1920 brick and weatherboarded addition. Internal machinery remains, including a undershot waterwheel. The tower mill was added in 1814 by Thomas Beeston who operated the water mill. It is built from black tarred brick and has five storeys, there is a datestone enscribed `EB, PEACE, 1814'. The tower mill was burned out in 1935. |
