More information : [TF94223905] CHAPEL [NR] (rems. of) MOAT [NR] (1) Some pieces of old wall surrounded by the track of an old moat and supposed to be the remains of an ancient Chapel of Ease. (2) This chapel existed after the Dissolution when, in 1548 it is stated that its founder and purpose was unknown, but that the 'master' at that time was Francis Bedingfield. (3) Remains of this parochial chapel can still be seen. (4) The walling is comprised of coursed flint, oriented N-S, and forms the inner wall of the moat. An inset portion may be the remains of a bascule or drawbridge wall. Immediately adjacent are traces of inner rooms. It seems unlikely that this was purely a chapel, more probably there was originally a domestic chapel to a moated residence. See 25" survey and also G.P (5)
