Hob Uid: 359275
Location :
Hertfordshire
Dacorum
Non Civil Parish
Grid Ref : TL0716008450
Summary : A well preserved Roman barrow located within an area of urban development. The slightly oval barrow mound measures c20m north-south and 24m east-west, standing to a height of 1.8m.
More information : [TL 07150845] Tumulus [G.T.] (1)

Unclassified: Tumulus N.W. of High St. Farm.
Condition - Fairly Good. (2)

This mound, thickly overgrown with holly and thorn, is situated
at the W. end of a prominent ridge and measures 28.0 m. N.S.
by 24.0m transversely and up to 1.8 m in height, it is surrounded
by a shallow ditch but the exact extent of this has been masked
by landscape gardening and some marginal encroachment by the
Hemel Hempstead New Town. A broad causeway enters onto the E.
side of the mound from the line of the ridge but a plaque on the
strong iron railing which surrounds the site states that it is
an Ancient Monument and an E.B.A. Bowl barrow. Enquiries of
the Boro. Engineers Dept. Hemel Hempstead confirmed that it is
in the direct care of the Min. Of Works. (3)

TL 071084. Round barrow 350 yards east of Highfield. Scheduled. (4)
