More information : (TL 19359856) The Palace (NR) (1) Bishop's Palace. Grade 1. Originally the Abbot's House. The present building is mainly Victorian Gothic but features of various dates survive. A triple shaft on a corbel of the late 12th century is a survival of the Monk's Kitchen. Two mid-13th century undercrofts survive. The solar wing at right angles to the Hall wing was built by Abbot Kirton (1496-1528) and is known as Heaven's Gate Chamber. (2-3) Ground photograph of Bishop's Palace. (4)
