Summary : Large house incorporating a possible 13th century fortified tower, re-modelled and enlarged by Anthony Salvin between 1862-66. It is mainly of two and three storeys, constructed of course rubble with quoins, has embattled parapets and graduated slate roofs. During the Second World War, the castle was used as an art storage facility for artwork from the Tate Gallery and India House. |
