More information : (TM 13936975) Mill (Disused) (NAT). (1) A large post mill with a three storey roundhouse at Thorndon was built in 1797. It had four patent sails, two pairs of stones in the head and a fantail. It was raised in 1820 to a height of 53 feet. In September 1923 it was struck by lightening, shortly after which it was demolished, but the roundhouse remains as a store and still contains the post and trestle. (Photo 1973).
