More information : A probable section of Dere Street Roman road (Linear 1031439) is visible as earthworks and cropmarks on historic air photographs centred at SE231 982. Between SE2344 9797 and SE2319 9829 it was visible as a slight flat-topped embankment. Between SE2319 9829 and SE2299 9855 it is detectable only as faint cropmarks and the failure of some brassicas along the modern hedgeline. At SE2304 9848 it is presumed to slight the bank of the henge monument UID 52343 but the cropmarks here are indistinguishable. At SE 2304 9848 itis presumed to cut across the banks of the henge (UID 52343) and faint parching within this monument may indicate road material. The whole of this section of Dere Street has now been destroyed by quarrying. (1-2)
