More information : (TM 2796 5804) Old Hall on site of (NAT) Letheringham Hall (NR). (1) Old Hall on site of Letheringham Hall, applies to a modern farmstead erected on the site of Letheringham Hall which was the seat of Sir Anthony Wingfield who lived in the reigns of Henry VIII and Edward VI. No information as to date of erection or demolition of ancient building. (2) Letheringham. A strong quadrangular moat, fed by the River Deben flowing close to its W side, is on the site of Letheringham Hall. (3) Letheringham Old Hall. Grade 3, 17th c, appears to have been entirely modernised, the core alone being original. Old Hall Barn. Grade 2, a fine 10 bay, 16th c timber and weatherboarded barn, now pantiled. (4) There are no apparent remains of the original Letheringham Hall. Old Hall and the 16th c barn (TM 2803 5806) are as described and not outstanding. See ground photographs. Around the Hall is a moat c 70.0 m square overall, waterfilled, and with arms averaging c 9.0 m in width. At the W corner of the moat, as described, is a feed channel from the R Deben, published survey (25") correct. (5)
