Summary : A bowl barrow situated on a chalk spur which projects from the southern edge of the Sussex Downs. The barrow has a roughly circular mound, about 15 metres in diameter and 1.7 metres high with a central hollow indicating part excavation at some time in the past. Find recovered from the monument include ashes, bones, a small Middle Bronze Age urn, and fragments of a larger vessel which are now in Brighton Musuem. Other finds include a mass of bronze, portions of Roman flue tile, fragments of Roman pottery, piece of imitation Samian, and fragments of Bronze Age type pottery. A fragment possibly of Early Bronze Age pottery usually associated with unburnt burials was also found, and it is suggested that the original interment was unburnt Early Bronze Age. Scheduled. |
